Disaster Falls - {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Friday, April 28, 2017, In : Reviews
Disaster Falls: A Family Story

I enjoy true stories, but this was the first time I was venturing into a true story about the death of a child, written by a father. Very heartbreaking story, but many lessons learned from reading the book.

As a reader, I did find it hard to not get a little frustrated at the order in which the book was written. I am one that likes the facts up front and then the details. Mr. Gerson did not give us the details of the accident until after half way through the book, which actually made me put t...

Strengths Based Marriage (Review)

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, January 28, 2017, In : Reviews

I am always looking to learn something different and if it can help my marriage of that of someone I know, I am all in! I was excited to be able to read and review Strengths Based Marriage. The tagline is Build a Stronger Relationship by Understanding Each Other's Gifts.

The book is based on the Clifton Strengthfinder Assessment. I was not aware that this was a test that costs at a minimum $15 (for your top 5 strengths) and $74 for all of them (34). Since I am all about saving money, I will n...

In Such Good Company Review

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, January 7, 2017, In : Reviews

I have loved Carol Burnett for years! I have fond memories of watching re-runs of her show growing up with my grandma. Years ago she wrote a book called Laughing Till It Hurts about her life and I loved it. So, when I heard she had written a new book, In Such Good Company, I knew I had to read it!

The book covers her years putting on The Carol Burnett Show. We get lots of behind the scenes information on the people who helped make the show what it was, the guest stars she had on the show and ...

A Spectacle of Glory Review

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, January 7, 2017, In : Reviews

With the new year, I know many of us are looking for ways to start new, good habits. I was asked to review A Spectacle of Glory. It is a small book with a dated devotional for each day. I have completed one week and find the writing to be very thoughtful and well written. Being a tiny book does put some limits in place and one is that there is space to write the verse(s) they are speaking of, but not room enough to actually quote them. It would be nice to have it all in one place, but without...

Greater Than Gold {Book Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, In : Reviews

Still have some Olympic fever going on around our house so I was happy to be able to read Greater Than Gold by David Boudia, Olympic Gold Medalist.

David share a lot about his childhood in the book, the struggles he faced as a teen and young adult, and ultimately find Jesus along the way and how it changed is outlook on life. He candidly shares how his focus in the beginning was on winning and being known by others, but once he accepted Jesus his focus was on Him and how he could use his tale...

Life of the Party {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Friday, September 16, 2016, In : Reviews

The minute I saw this book, Life of the Party, by Bob Kealing, I knew I had to read it! I am a fan of the 1950"s and have been to my fair share of Tupperware parties, and could not wait to learn more about Brownie Wise. She was President of Tupperware during part of the 1950's and really was a big reason for their success in the early years.

I loved all the pictures scattered throughout the book and just learning more about how Tupperware began. I will be honest and say that at times it lost ...

The Things We Knew {Book Review}

Image result for the things we knew

Hi everyone, back with another book review! I like to mix up my fiction and non-fiction ready as much as possible and decided to choose Catherine West's The Things We Knew.

The story centers around a family from Nantucket, and most specifically around the youngest sister, Lynette. Family history she cannot remember, an old love that is back in the picture and ailing parents, makes this a great summer read! It has everything you would want, but with a spiritual bend that makes it refreshing.

The Queen of Katwe {review}

Image result for the queen of katwe
I have a passion for true stories. Can't turn one down in book or movie form. I was asked to review The Queen of Katwe and to let you know about the upcoming Disney movie based on this book - coming out September 23rd!

I will be honest and say that the beginning of the book was a little confusing. After a short introduction to Phiona Mutesi, you are introduced to people that you are not sure of how they fit in the story and why you are learning about them. Once the book introduces us to Robert...

Review - That's Not Hay in My Hair

Image result for that's not hay in my hair
I had the chance to review what I believed to be a Young Adult book, That's Not Hay in My Hair. Come to find out, it really is a book more for the middle school aged crowd. It is a cute story, written by Juliette Turner, who herself is only 17, and is the story of a 5th grade girl who moves from New York City to Texas. With that moves comes all the trails of learning to live on a farm, in the middle of no where. For the author being so young, it is pretty well written, but did find some ideas...

Love Without Limits {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, March 6, 2016, In : Reviews

I have known about Nick Vujicic for a few years, but have not had a chance to read any of his books...until now! I just finished Love Without Limits that he wrote with his wife Kanae.

This book is more geared to singles or newlyweds, because it has a lot of great advise and wisdom about dating, marriage, family, etc. but as someone who has been married 25 years I still loved it! For being married a short amount of time (only a few years) I was so impressed by their wise advise and heart for G...

The Mustard Seed {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, February 21, 2016, In : Reviews

I just got done with a short story, The Mustard Seed by Peter Szondy. The idea for the book came from things that happened to G.M. Mercier in his own life. (I would love to know more about the true story!) The story is about a little girl, Sara, who after spending an afternoon praying to God, now has the ability to heal. With childlike faith she heals, shares her love for God and soon findsshe herself is deathly ill. I won't give away the ending, but it is a good one!

The story is charming, u...

The Seven Laws of Love {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, January 17, 2016, In : Reviews

I read one of the best books I have read in a really long time recently, The Seven Laws of Love by Dave Willis. I actually stumbled across Dave on the internet and found out he is a pastor and he and his wife both blog. I started following him on Facebook and love his wisdom and down to earth words.

So when I heard that he had written a book that was being released soon, I was so happy!  When I started I thought this was going to be a marriage book, but it is not. It is, just as it states, a b...

The Last Con {Book Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, September 12, 2015, In : Reviews

I was intrigued to read The Last Con by Zachary Bartels, one because I had not heard of the author before and two, the story line caught my attention. An con man who leaves prison, looking to redeem himself, gets pulled back in to another job. Bartels does a great job of weaving in information from the 1700s into the modern day tale in a way that is so intriguing. The book did not capture my attention from the first page, but once I had some time to just relax, sit back and allow the story to...

Nine Thoughts That Can Change Your Marriage

Disclaimer, I really like Sheila Wray Gregoire :) I have been reading her blog, To Love, Honor and Vacuum for a few years now and just love how honest and funny she is. When I saw that she had written a new book, I just had to get it!

When Mockingbirds Sing {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, June 6, 2015, In : Reviews
When Mockingbirds Sing

I like to read a lot of non-fiction books, but thought I would branch our recently and read When Mockingbirds Sing by Billy Coffey. I knew it was a Christian book about a little girl, but that was all. The book focuses on a new family in town and in particular their daughter, Leah. She can see an imaginary figure called The Rainbow Man. The plot and characters are developed very well. I could not wait to turn the page and see what was going to happen next. Nothing like what I had expected. Mi...

Restore Concrete Resurfacer Review

So, I am all about being frugal, but I am about to share a project that was a bit on the pricey side, but, of course, I saved lots of survey money to make it cheaper!

Years ago I saw images of acid washed concrete and fell in love. I researched the products and bought some online. I tried it on our bare concrete and was shocked at how it turned out. My concrete looked like rust. Luckily I had not done all of the concrete, but I had to come up with a way to cover up my "oops". So, I bought con...

I had never heard of Jillian Lauren before reading Everything You Ever Wanted, even though she is a new York Times bestselling author of two other books. So, I was not sure what the book would be about or her for that fact.

Everything You Ever Wanted is her journey of infertility and adoption. She is brutally honest about her life, her struggles and the journey she and her husband Scott, a member of the band Weezer, went through to adopt their son from Ethiopia. What I love about her writing i...

A really enjoy history and biographies, so I was pleased to be able to read and review A Fifty-Year Silence: Love, War, and a Ruined House in France  by Miranda Richmond Mouillot. She share the story of her grandparents lives during World War II. She was on a quest to find out how they met and fell in love and then to figure out why how they lost that love. Loved Back to Life {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, April 12, 2015, In : Reviews

I have heard Sheila Walsh speak a handful of times at Women of Faith events and was always touched with her raw honesty about your battle with depression. I was able to learn a little more about her walk in her newest book Loved Back to Life. In it she walks us through a time in her life, in the early 90's, when she was working as co-host of the 700 Club and decided that she needed to admit herself into a psychiatric hospital. The story is both touch and inspiring, I loved how she shared amaz...

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies - {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, In : Reviews
Miss Brenda and the Loveladies

I have been reading up a storm lately, not sure what has come over me, but I love it when I read a good book. I had the pleasure of reading Miss Brenda and the Loveladies last week. It is a true story about Ms. Brenda from Alabama who felt that she was called to help women who had recently been released from prison who otherwise would probably have ended up right back in jail.

The book is both funny and sad. Miss Brenda sounds like a hoot and to hear her tell about the first time the ladies c...

You must know one thing about me, I am a sucker for biographies, love them! When I had a chance to review He Wanted the Moon: The Madness and Medical Genius of Dr. Perry Baird, and His Daughter's Quest to Know Him, I jumped at it.

Image result for the power of a half hour

I just finished The Power of a Half Hour by Tommy Barnettt. I have enjoyed two books in the past by his son, Matthew Barnett, and could now wait to read this one.

The idea behind the book is to "Take Back Your Life Thirty Minutes at a Time". Each chapter is quick to read and then there is an accompanying Personal Action Plan that goes along with each chapter. This is the kind of book that you do not have to sit and read straight through, from beginning to end quickly, in fact I would recommend...

Who does not love Christmas music? It is the icing on the cake, what really gets me in the mood for Christmas. I had the pleasure of listening to Idina Menzel's newly released Christmas album, Holiday Wishes. She is best known for Frozen, but I first became aware of her in Wicked. One word, LOVE! Matthew Barnett's heart to help the less fortunate touches me so much. This is his second book and I would not wait to read it and it did not disappoint. In his latest book Misfits Welcome: Find Yourself in Jesus and Bring the World Along for the Ride he weaves in stories of his life, of the lives of people staying at the Dream Center in Los Angeles while he motivates the reader to go with their gut and help those in needs, even if you do not feel qualified to do so.

2 A.M. at The Cat's Pajamas

Most of the books I have been reading in recent years are by Christian authors and so I thought it was time to venture out of my comfort zone and try something new and the title alone, 2 A.M. at the Cat's Pajamas, definitely caught my attention. I thought it was a great title!

The book follows the lives of 3 people, in one neighborhood, in one day. The premise is great. I love how the author, Marie-Helen Buertino allows you to get to know each character so well. Many authors are not as gifted ...

Story Stix {Review}

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Friday, September 5, 2014, In : Reviews

It is so important, at an early age, to teach your children to love God and to understand the Bible. By doing so, you are setting them up to know there is someone that loves them unconditionally and will be there through out their lives. By sharing stories from the Bible, you show them that these were true and not make believe. Hotline to God has a new product out, Story Stix that will help you do just that. I had my friend Michelle and her daughter Joy review them for us.

OK, I will be honest. The moment I saw what this book was about I was worried about reading it. Jessie Rees dies of cancer at the age of 12. Sure, I will read that, no! But, I know she did a lot once she was diagnosed with cancer to help others. She came up with the idea for JoyJars, to give to all children fighting cancer. I know this book was written by her father, Erick Rees, a pastor at Saddleback Church in Orange County, California. So, I plunged ahead and finished the book in 1 day, ha,...

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, In : Reviews

I was lucky enough to receive a preview copy of Kylie Minogue's latest album, The Abbey Road Session, that just came out today!  Her voice is just so beautiful and I found myself relaxing just listening to it.  It is definitely one of those albums to have on a road trip.

  • The Abbey Road Sessions features sixteen tracks, all radically reworked, spanning Kylie’s incredible twenty-five-year career. It was recorded in London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios with Kylie’s band and a full orchestr...

If you have watched The Voice on NBC then you are probably familiar with Chris Mann, who was on season two.  His first CD, Roads, came out on Tuesday.  I was lucky enough to preview it and I just love it!  He tackles all genres of music, which I love!  I have albums where all the songs sound alike!  Roads boasts a wildly eclectic assortment of songs, ranging from Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind" and Lady Antebellum's "Need You Now" to "Ave Maria" and Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" w...

Kyle Sherman "Hear Me" Review

I recently had the pleasure of listening to an album by a new artist, Kyle Sherman.  His debut album, Hear Me, is a contemporary Christian album that is very eclectic.  Some songs have more of a gospel feel while others are more contemporary.  My absolute favorite is One True Friend which includes vocals of a child and is so touching.

So, if you love to listen to new artist, I would definitely recommend this album.  It is uplifting and just makes you feel good!  Click HERE if you are interes...

When To Speak Up & When to Shut Up

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, October 6, 2012, In : Reviews

I had the opportunity to read a book that has been in print for awhile, one that has sold over 200,000 copies.  When to Speak Up & When to Shut Up by Dr. Michael D. Sedler.

There are 10 chapters filled with wonderful advice, stories from the author's life and biblical examples to help us understand how to communicate, or in some cases not communicate, with others. It is a book to really ponder over, and if you have a conflict right now with another person, it will probably help shed light on...

Last week I shared with you a new movie that was a must see, Unconditional.  Well, I just got done reading the book Unconditional: A Novel and it was such a good story.  I cannot remember the last time a book brought me to tears and this one did!  The story is based on true events and although the book starts out with a tragedy (I will not give too much away :) the end leaves you feeling uplifted!  What I love about this book is that it shares the story of a woman who is a children's book au...

Product Details

I just finished a really good book and wanted to let you know about it.  If you enjoy reading John Grisham then you will like The Deposit Slip by Todd Johnson.  I loved the idea for the book.  I am always in awe of writers and how they come up with new, fresh ideas for plots for books.  This was a really good one!  Here is a little blurb about the book:

When Jared Neaton grew tired of the shady ethics of his big law firm and left to go out on his own, he never expected the wheels to fly off so...

Printables
As some of you know, I homeschooled both of my children for many years.  While it is not for everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed being with them, teaching them and going on field trips :)  During the years I taught them, homeschooling became more and more popular and the amount of resources grew by leaps and bounds.  One of the resources that I did not use at the time, but wish I had known about are the Scholastic Printable Worksheets.

Plans start as low as $8.99 a month of you can get a 1 year m...

Unjunk Your Junk Food: Healthy Alternatives to Conventional Snacks
I have the pleasure to be a part of the 2012 Naturally Savvy blogger program.  Our first assignment was to review their newest book Unjunk Your Junk Food.  I am the first one to admit I do not eat well.  I love junk food and eat way too much of it.  What I love about this book is that the first three chapters go in depth about all the additives in our food and breaks down why they are not good for you.  They have a list of "The Scary Seven" ingredients that you should try to make sure your fo...

Rascal Flatts Review & Contest

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, In : Reviews

Rascal Flatts' latest album Changed came out last week.  I was asked to review the album, but I will be the first to admit that I am not a country music fan.  Growing up in Southern California it is not the music of choice, not that there are not a lot of people that listen to it.  So, I sat down yesterday once the CD arrived and promised to be objective.  The first track is Changed and I was pleasantly surprised.  The words that were sung, about stepping away from faith and them coming back,...

I was lucky enough to be sent some Green Works products in the mail a few weeks back to test and review.  I had seen their products on the shelves of stores I visit in the past, but had never purchased them.  So, I was excited to give them a try.  And knowing that they were environmentally friendly was a plus.

The first product I tried was their laundry detergent (not pictured above).  I really enjoyed the fragrance, not too strong, but pleasant.  I did not suddenly notice that my clothes we...
